Girls Inc. of the Northern Sacramento Valley
Inspiring all girls to be strong, smart, and bold
Girls Inc. of the Northern Sacramento Valley is a local non-profit organization that supports girls living in the north state. We are an affiliate of the national Girls Inc,. and were established in 2006 in Tehama County. We currently serve girls 6-18 years at local schools and community centers throughout Shasta and Tehama counties. Our research based programs help to build girls self-esteem, transform their views of themselves, and help them to recognize their potential as leaders, friends, innovators, and independent thinkers. Girls Inc.’s mission is to inspire all girls to be strong, smart and bold.
Girls growing up in the north state face many challenges including low median income households, low rates of educational achievement, increasing rates of substance abuse, and exposure to violence inside of the home. While many valuable resources are available to girls in Shasta and Tehama counties, supporters of Girls Inc. know that more gender specific programs and opportunities are needed to educate and inspire girls.
Girls Inc. currently offers eight programs that are delivered by trained professionals in safe, all girl environments. They spark girl’s interest in science, technology, engineering, and math, promote drug and pregnancy prevention, foster self-esteem, and teach skills such as stress management, financial literacy, and community leadership. We can provide one and three day workshops, as well as six and twelve week programs. We also deliver programs that encourage girls to play sports, to live a healthy lifestyle, and how to protect themselves using self-defense techniques.
We are proud to support girls showing up in the north state and to provide programs free of cost that will aid our future community members and leaders!
